FAQs
You should come to After Hours Pediatrics if your child requires urgent care when your pediatrician or primary care physician’s office is closed (i.e., if your child has an injury or illness that needs immediate attention but that is NOT life-threatening). We are open weeknights, weekends, and most holidays as an alternative to the emergency room or urgent care centers that typically serve adults.
Both of our locations are open Monday – Friday from 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm and weekends from 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm. We are open every day of the week and most holidays. We close only for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. For other holiday hours, see our complete Hours of Service schedule.
Each patient’s total out-of-pocket cost is based on three factors:
(1) Service Provided (e.g. checking lungs, performing strep test, administering shots, etc.),
(2) Insurance Provider (e.g. Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, etc.), and
(3) Type of Insurance Plan (e.g. deductible, co-pay, co-insurance, exclusions, etc.).
Upon arriving to our office, we make a copy of your insurance card and verify eligibility. At that time, we know your insurance provider and your co-pay. That is really all we know. Our front office staff cannot advise patients over the phone or upon arrival what their total out-of-pocket cost will be. It is variable and dependent on what is done in the office, the insurance provider, and the type of insurance plan. If our front office staff informs a patient that the only charge is your co-pay, they are only referring to the up-front charge. This will be the case with a visit to any other medical office, urgent care or emergency room.
The fee for an office visit at After Hours Pediatrics is typically between $150.00 and $250.00. To be clear, that amount is not always billed as one code. Depending on what was done and how your insurance provider applies coding, the fee may be broken into several different codes.
If a patient absolutely needs certainty on the total out-of-pocket cost or does not have insurance, we offer a cash-price of $175.00, which covers all costs related to your office visit (other than prescription medication purchased in our office or labs sent outside of our office). This is paid up-front and not submitted to insurance.
Finally, all of our fees are negotiated and agreed upon by the insurance companies with which we have contracts. We, along with any other medical provider, do not have the ability to change the rates as we see fit. The fees are contractually set.
Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. The typical visit is 30 minutes or less, depending on the services you need. If you need lab tests, breathing treatments or a procedure performed, you may be in the office for longer. Our pediatricians will always take the time to answer your questions thoroughly.
Unlike the typical urgent care clinic that caters mainly to adults, After Hours Pediatrics provides care ONLY for children up to the age of 18. Other urgent care clinics may be open all day, but we believe it is important for children to be seen by their pediatrician whenever possible, and we only offer services when your primary doctor’s office is closed. Yes. We work with your pediatrician as your partner in care, providing you a convenient and comfortable place to bring your child to when your pediatrician's office is not open on weeknights, weekends, and holidays. In fact, we encourage you to ask your pediatrician about us.
No. After Hours Pediatrics is not a substitute for your pediatrician or primary care physician. We do not offer immunizations, well-child visits, or school or sports physicals. It is in your child’s best interest for his or her primary doctor to perform these services.
As an urgent care facility, you do not need a referral from your pediatrician or primary care physician to be seen at After Hours Pediatrics.
Yes, we do. After your visit, we fax a copy of your child’s medical record, including the doctor’s notes and lab reports to your pediatrician. You should follow up with your pediatrician as instructed.
